Very rare Cartier signed Movado “Ermeto” travel watch, dating back to the 1930s. The Movado Ermeto was introduced in 1926 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, as a revolutionary travel and purse watch. Its name, derived from the Greek word for “sealed,” referred to the protective sliding case that shielded the movement from dust and moisture. Developed in collaboration with the case maker Huguenin Frères, the Ermeto stood out not only for its elegant Art Deco design but also for its technical innovation: by opening and closing the sliding case, the watch was automatically wound. This clever mechanism, patented in 1927 by Isidore Ditesheim, made the Ermeto both stylish and practical, earning it international acclaim and establishing it as one of Movado’s most iconic creations. This spefic watch marked the “normal” version, measuring 34×47mm closed and 34×73 with open “doors”. Featuring a steel case and a movado automatic movement - a stunning collectors item!
Case: Very good vintage case, showing wear from use.
Dial: Original Cartier signed dial in great condition with some patina throughout.
Movement: The automatic movement has been carefully checked by our watchmaker, running strong.
Accessories: VOYS Certificate of Authenticity.
